Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

TheRecipeScan is operated by Richard Connor (sole proprietor). For privacy enquiries, contact us at [email protected]. We comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable.

2. What We Store — and What We Don't

When you sign up, we store the following in our database (hosted on Cloudflare's infrastructure):

• ✓ Email address — used to identify your account and send verification codes.
• ✓ Scan credit balance — how many scans you have remaining.
• ✓ Total scans used — a running count, used for account management.
• ✓ Purchase history — transaction reference, amount, and credits bought, for each top-up.

We do not store your recipe images, recipe text, or scan results. Recipe content is processed in real-time and discarded immediately after the response is returned to you.

3. Recipe Processing

When you scan or upload a recipe, the content is sent to Anthropic's API (the makers of Claude AI) for ingredient extraction. This is a real-time pass-through — we do not log or retain what you send.

4. Payments

Purchases are processed by Paddle, our merchant of record. We never see or store your credit card details. Paddle handles all billing, receipts, and tax compliance. Their privacy policy is at paddle.com/legal/privacy. On a successful purchase, Paddle notifies us of your email address, the transaction reference, and the amount paid so we can credit your account.

5. Cookies & Analytics

We currently do not use third-party analytics or advertising cookies. Your login state is stored in your browser's local storage (not a cookie) and is never shared. If we add analytics in the future, we will update this policy and, where required by law, ask for your consent first.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. We store very little — your email, credit balance, scan count, and purchase history. To request access or deletion, email us at [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days. For payment data, contact Paddle directly.

7. Children

RecipeScan is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the service and data was collected, contact us and we'll address it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of RecipeScan after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
