1. What RecipeScan Does

RecipeScan is a web app that extracts, converts, and scales recipe ingredients using AI. It is provided as-is for personal, non-commercial kitchen use. We use Anthropic's Claude AI to read and interpret recipe content — accuracy depends on the quality of the input and is not guaranteed.

2. Free Tier & Scan Credits

New accounts receive 5 free scan credits on sign-up. A "scan" is any use of the Recipe tab — camera, upload, paste, or URL. Free credits do not reset or replenish.

• The ingredient unit converter is always free and unlimited.
• Attempting to circumvent scan limits (e.g. creating multiple accounts or using automated tools) is a violation of these terms and may result in account suspension.

3. Scan Top-Ups

Additional scans are available as one-time purchases. There are no subscriptions or recurring charges. By purchasing a scan pack:

• You authorise Paddle (our merchant of record) to charge the stated amount once. Paddle handles all payment processing, tax collection, and billing compliance on our behalf.
• Credits are added to your account immediately on payment confirmation and never expire.
• Multiple top-ups stack — credits accumulate in your account.
• Prices are shown inclusive of applicable taxes where required by law.

4. Refunds

Under EU law, the right of withdrawal for digital content may be waived once delivery has begun with your prior consent. We go further than the law requires:

• Unused credits: if you haven't used any scans from a purchase, you may request a full refund within 7 days.
• Partially used credits: we will refund a pro-rata amount for any unused scans remaining in a pack, within 7 days of purchase.
• After 7 days, refunds are at our discretion. Contact us at [email protected] and we'll do our best to help.
• Chargebacks raised without contacting us first may result in account suspension.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use RecipeScan to process content that is illegal, harmful, or infringes third-party rights.
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the service without written permission.
• Use automated scripts or bots to interact with the app.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or access underlying API keys or infrastructure.

6. AI Accuracy Disclaimer

RecipeScan uses AI to extract and convert recipe data. Results may be inaccurate. Always verify ingredient quantities before cooking, especially for baking or recipes requiring precision. We are not liable for dishes that don't turn out as expected.

7. Intellectual Property

The RecipeScan name, logo, and interface are our intellectual property. Recipe content you submit remains yours. We claim no ownership over your recipes. You grant us a limited, temporary licence to process your content solely to provide the service.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, RecipeScan is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the service. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding any claim.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer in the EU, you may also have rights under your local laws that cannot be excluded by this clause.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be indicated by a new date at the top of this page. Continued use of RecipeScan after changes constitutes acceptance. If you disagree with updated terms, your remedy is to stop using the service.
